New 27xx Series Indoor ONTs Deliver Lightning-Fast Wi-Fi Speeds

  • Zhone Technologies
OAKLAND, CA — Zhone Technologies, a global provider of fiber access transformation for service provider and enterprise networks, has introduced four new 27xx Series GPON Optical Network Terminals (ONT) that are designed to deliver advanced triple-play services in multi-room environments such as large homes, hotels and university dorms. The zNID 27xx indoor models provide a simple, fully-integrated solution in a stylish table-top casing and deliver the highest WiFi performance from Zhone to date.

"In settings such as large houses and hotels, it's important that equipment looks modern and is visually appealing, yet also supports a wide variety of devices with the fastest internet throughput experience," said Eric Presworsky, chief technology officer for Zhone Technologies. "We designed the 27xx Series ONTs with style and optimal performance to bring next-generation connectivity to the fingertips of users."

Multiple Internal High-gain Antennas
The new 2726H1, 2726A1, 2727A1 and 2728A1 ONTs have multiple internal high-gain antennas that enable two concurrent dual-band (2.4 and 5.8GHz) WiFi radios to independently connect multiple users and devices simultaneously, including older 802.11b/g/n as well as 802.11ac devices, and bring WiFi performance to a new level. The ONTs are based on the latest GPON System-On-A-Chip (SOC) to deliver comprehensive capabilities, which complements the new sleek design with a stylish LED display.

The ONTs sit upright and are housed in an aesthetically-pleasing, modern casing with a small footprint, making them ideal for multi-service applications such as hospitality or residential environments because the units do not utilize a lot of space or need to be hidden. Each ONT has an easy-to-read display that provides status indications, including Internet connectivity.

The 27xx Series ONT models include:

  • The 2726A1 supports four Gigabit Ethernet (GE) LAN ports, five internal antennas that provide WiFi over both 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz, two voice ports and one USB port. The four GE LAN ports can be separated into different services, allowing the configuration of dedicated ports for IP video and data.

  • The 2726H1 also supports Internet connection over coaxial cabling using HomePNA over Coax (HCNA). This allows service providers to utilize existing coaxial cabling in a home to setup a new Internet network, eliminating the need to run new cables.

  • In addition to the 2726A1 and 2726H1 ONTs, the 2727A1 also includes a Radio Frequency (RF) Video port that delivers clear, crisp RF video to devices in RF overlay applications.

  • The 2728A1 also has four GE LAN ports, two voice ports and one USB port, and delivers the highest WiFi throughput of the 27xx Series. With seven internal antennas and an assured transmission scheme, the 2728A1 provides reliable, fast Internet coverage that makes Multicast IPTV services over WiFi a reality, a significant benefit for large homes and multi-room settings.
