OFS Launches Handheld Fusion Splicer

NORCROSS, GA -- OFS announced the commercial release of its handheld core-alignment FITEL S178 fusion splicer, which it says can reduce splicing time by as much as 20 percent.

Linda Dembowski, general manager for optical connectivity solutions, says, "By combining speed, precision, durability and portability in one unit, the FITEL S178 fusion splicer ushers in a new range of applications for core alignment splicing."

The splicer is significantly smaller and lighter than previous models.  Its canopy design, metal body frame and rubber shock absorbers are designed to provide robust protection, enabling use in demanding environments without compromising splicing performance.  Its mirror-free alignment system allows for simplified maintenance. The new battery system provides up to 200 splicing cycles (splicing/heating).
