MUSCAT, OMAN — As part of its endeavors to provide the best and high quality telecommunication services, Omantel announced a project to introduce fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) technology in Oman that will provide the fastest and most comprehensive range of Internet applications.

The introduction of FTTH using the GPON technology is a remarkable leap in the application of modern communications technology that can provide a comprehensive variety of entertainment options for both the home and business users through a high-speed connection network. The FTTH technology will also provide Internet users with high-speed Internet services that will support services such as high-definition video, video on demand, e-Education and more.

Expanding FTTH Implementations
The project has been implemented in many phases starting with main cities in different governorates. FTTH has also been provided in areas located outside main cities. The company continues its endeavor to extend FTTH to the newly planned areas as alternative for the copper cables that were used in the past.

Commenting on the service, Eng. Said Abdullah al Ajmi, vice president of Omantel Integrated Networks Unit, said, "FTTH is a state-of-the-art technology that provides high-speed Internet broadband at more than 150 Mbps. We at Omantel are very proud to be the first telecommunication company to provide this service in Muscat. Rapid growth in demand for home broadband and modern technologies urged us to adopt a strategy to build new fiber optic networks in newly planned area."

FTTH provides customers with unmatched benefits including high speed and reliability regardless of the distance between the customer and the central exchange. FTTH, which is the new generation of broadband, will open new doors for customers to use applications that require high bandwidth and speeds such as e-education, e-examination, 3D presentations, video conferences, remote security management and other broadband applications.
