CHICAGO — Comcast announced that the company has brought its advanced network infrastructure to Veridian, a 225-acre mixed-use campus under development in Schaumburg, Ill., a suburb northwest of Chicago. Veridian will include residential and office space, hotel, entertainment, dining and urban-style street retail districts.
“Veridian is an entirely new concept in suburban real estate development,” said Bob Burk, co-founder and managing partner, UrbanStreet Group, Veridian’s developer. “Technology has been and will continue to play a major role in all of the buildings and numerous other spaces planned for the campus. Having Comcast’s advanced network infrastructure available onsite has been a catalyst for the development currently underway and will ensure we’re able to provide the technology necessary to attract and support future development.”
Comcast will offer internet speeds of up to 100 Gbps to businesses located in the development, as well as a host of state-of-the-art consumer and commercial services and smart technologies.
Residential Internet Service at Element at Veridian
As part of the Veridian project, Comcast’s Xfinity Communities team is providing high-speed internet service at Element at Veridian, a 260-unit residential building, the first on the campus. Element also will offer the Xfinity Community platform, with smart home devices ranging from smart locks and lights to smart thermostats that can help manage tenants’ energy bills. Each of these devices can be programmed to perform specific functions at specific times. For example, smart thermostats can be programmed to change the temperature throughout the day and smart lights can be programmed to turn on and off at set times. In addition, all the devices can be controlled via the Smart Community app – from inside and outside the unit. The Xfinity Flex 4K streaming device, which includes Peacock, NBCUniversal’s new streaming service, is available to Element tenants for no additional cost. Xfinity TV service, including the X1 Entertainment Operating System, which brings live TV, sports, streaming and music together, is also available.
Property managers onsite can control the entire platform via the Xfinity Smart Community Portal, which lets them manage automation technology in vacant units, administrative and public areas, helping increase the property’s overall operational efficiency. For example, property staff can provide remote access to a specific unit, control and monitor the temperature in public areas throughout the property, and with a single click, change the energy settings in all vacant units, so that regardless of how the unit was left, the HVAC and lighting systems are within property guidelines. Other Smart Community features available from Xfinity include leak detection and the ability to monitor property cameras from a centralized location.
