FAYETTEVILLE, AR — OzarksGo, a local fiber-optic telecommunications subsidiary of Ozarks Electric Cooperative, announced that is has connected its 20,000th subscriber. “Reaching this milestone is a true testament to the team here and the goal of bringing reliable internet to communities that truly need us,” said Steve Bandy, general manager of OzarksGo. “In the next five years, the need for faster and more reliable internet will grow exponentially and OzarksGo will be here to deliver just that.”

OzarksGo connected its first customer in 2017 in west Springdale, and has since expanded across Northwest Arkansas and Northeast Oklahoma. OzarksGo plans to make service available to all Ozarks Electric members by the end of 2021.

OzarksGo provides residential internet speeds up to 1,000 Mbps using a fiber-optic network. Customers in rural areas can get speeds as good or better than those available in major cities, often for a lower price than they were paying for much slower service. As demand for bandwidth grows, OzarksGo’s network will also be able to accommodate residential speeds up to 10 gigabits per second.

The fiber network also benefits Ozarks Electric members by enabling smart grid technology to reduce outages and outage durations. Since OzarksGo launched, several other Arkansas electric cooperatives have started their own fiber projects, bringing internet to rural areas and bridging the digital divide.
