PRINCETON, NJ — RCN Business, a communications provider delivering network solutions for voice, data and video, deployed its high quality, fully redundant fiber network into 589 5th Avenue in New York City. Owned by Western Management, this Wired Certified building, located at one of the most desired addresses in all of New York City, offers tenants a broad range of amenities, including fiber-based, high-speed Internet, data and voice services.

Gold Level Wired Certification
Launched by the Bloomberg Administration in partnership with New York City Economic Development Corp., Wired Certification is a standardized rating system designed to identify, evaluate and certify commercial buildings with the fastest and most reliable Internet connections, and has been adopted by the nation’s leading owners. Buildings that meet or exceed the official set of standards developed for assessing Internet services in commercial buildings are awarded one of four levels of Wired Certification: Platinum, Gold, Silver or Certified. 589 5th Avenue’s Gold level Wired Certification was achieved with the assistance of Velstar, a global telecom and cost management agency that is also a RCN Business agent. Velstar manages the telecommunications infrastructure for 589 5th Avenue and sources services to meet its clients’ needs for the best Internet, voice, networking and managed solutions.

“Our goal is to provide high-quality amenities and services to our tenants, and we knew achieving a Wired Certification was critical to that effort and in attracting emerging technology, advertising, media and information technology (TAMI) companies that require reliable, high-speed Internet services,” states Ken Wentworth, executive vice president for Western Management. “Velstar was instrumental in managing our RFP process to identify best-in-breed network providers to help us achieve our Gold-level Wired Certification. We recognized their capability to deliver triple-play cable services but also redundant fiber connectivity into our building so that our tenants have a wide variety of secure network services in which to choose.”

“RCN Business was one of the only carriers able to offer a combination of triple-play cable and Ethernet-over-fiber services such as HDTV, Hosted Voice, and Internet,” comments Tony Ruggieri, managing partner of Global Salesat Velstar. “Their team delivered on their promise and lit the building in just a few days, versus historically weeks. All of this can be attributed to RCN’s commitment and professional, project management of a seamless installation that ultimately led to an increase in tenant satisfaction, as well as a very positive experience for Western Management overall.”
