MIAMI, FL — The city of Savannah will work with Magellan to examine the feasibility of leveraging its current fiber-optic network and possible expansion to improve broadband for municipal operations, businesses, education, healthcare, community anchors, public safety and residents throughout one of the countries most historic and inviting cities. Magellan’s staff has planned and developed fiber optic networks in over 200 communities across the U.S., and will bring their real world experience to develop a study that delivers realistic, actionable steps going forward for the city of Savannah. The feasibility study will focus on assessing the current broadband assets and present and possible future broadband needs of the city of Savannah including municipal, anchor facilities, economic development, and public safety and City of Savannah stakeholders, creating a state of broadband report and study for the city. Magellan and the city of Savannah staff will work cooperatively to examine the financial feasibility of creating an enhanced and more extensive broadband network for the city of Savannah. Magellan will deliver a needs’ assessment; current state of the broadband in the market; services availability mapping, state of market competition and complete financial study and business plan and operational model.
