SAN JOSE, CA, and WEST JEFFERSON, NC - SkyLine Telephone Membership Corporation, a cooperative that serves parts of North Carolina and Tennessee, has begun building a gigabit fiber-to-the-home network to deliver triple-play services in the rural communities of Ashe and Alleghany counties in North Carolina, along with Johnson County in Tennessee. SkyLine will install approximately 900 miles of new fiber to the targeted communities. The project is partially funded by $29 million in broadband stimulus loans and grants.

Allied Telesis, a longtime supplier to SkyLine, was selected to supply the FTTH electronics. SkyLine will deploy the Allied Telesis iMAP 9810 (integrated Multiservice Access Platform) and iMG 726BD (an outdoor, active Ethernet, intelligent Multiservice Gateway) to provide gigabit FTTH services. SkyLine also relies on the Allied Telesis AlliedView Network Management System (NMS) to perform auto-provisioning and critical management functions.

"Allied Telesis has been the SkyLine access supplier of choice for a number of years," comments Robbie Farmer, engineering manager at SkyLine. "The iMAP and iMG FTTH solution has a rich feature set at the right price that compared very favorably to the other vendors we evaluated during our competitive bid process. Additionally, the AlliedView NMS played a key role in our decision. We regard it as a powerful tool for SkyLine's customer services and network operations needs."
