EINDHOVEN, NETHERLANDS - Sterlite Technologies, a global provider of optical fiber-based products and services, announced that it is currently involved in several landmark FTTH deployments in the Netherlands. By December 2012, Sterlite had 10,000 connected homes across two cities in the country. The company now aims to add another 40,000 households to the fiber network by the end of 2013, extending the service to five cities. Sterlite's scope of work includes delivery of all optical fiber passive components, project management, warehousing, logistics and product training.
According to the FTTH Council, the Netherlands currently has a FTTH penetration of close to 5 percent, and with the Eruopean nations racing toward fiber maturity, it is expected to reach as high as 70 percent by the end of 2018. Being part of this network expansion, Sterlite aims to enable a sizable fraction of FTTH connections in households across the Netherlands.
