Sticklers Offers an IPA Replacement for Fiber Optic Cleaning

NEW BRITIAN, CT — Sticklers has launched Sticklers Fiber Optic Splice & Connector Cleaner, an IPA replacement for fiber optic cleaning.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, many more people are working from home, increasing demand for reliable, fast data. As a result networks use is reaching an all-time high. It is therefore vital that fiber network connections are clean to allow them to operate at optimum levels. This however is proving problematic to some fiber optic network installers using IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) cleaning products.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends using cleaners made of at least 70% alcohol to disinfect surfaces. This has led to a widespread surge in global demand for IPA with much of it diverted for use in hospitals and other medical settings. As a result fiber optic network engineers are facing a shortage of IPA fluid used for cleaning their splices and connections.

An Alternative to IPA for Cleaning Fiber Optic Network Connections

To help counter this shortage, Sticklers Fiber Optic Cleaners is offering an alternative to IPA for cleaning fiber optic network connections. According to Rick Hoffman, Sticklers national accounts manager, “The Sticklers Fiber Optic Splice & Connector Cleaner is the perfect alternative to IPA. It also has an advantage as it cleans better and is safer to use. iNEMI, IPC, BICSI and other fiber industry organizations recommend wet/dry cleaning as the most effective method for cleaning fiber end faces. IPA is a traditional choice, but due to Coronavirus, IPA is in short supply as it is being widely used in a number of hygiene products like hand sanitizers and disinfectants. IPA is extremely hard to buy in high purity packaging and difficult to keep clean and uncontaminated during day-to-day operations. Perhaps now is the ideal time to upgrade to a better alternative and use a pure optical grade cleaning fluid.”

Optical grade Sticklers Fiber Optic Splice & Connector Cleaner is a superior alternative to IPA. Not only is it non-flammable for added safety, but it dries 8 times faster than IPA, is static-dissipative and sold in hermetically sealed packaging. Fast drying time is especially important for cleaning fiber. It speeds cleaning time and ensures moisture is not trapped in the connector housing after cleaning. A static-dissipative fluid also helps deflect impurities, especially dust from the surface being cleaned.

“Because we have a strong supply chain and multiple manufacturing locations, we have the flexibility to produce our products and deliver as scheduled so customers can still achieve optimal cleaning results and ensure their networks can run efficiently during this demanding time,” concluded Rick Hoffman.
