HANOVER, GERMANY - Glattwerk, a municipal service provider in the Swiss canton of Zurich, is migrating from a hybrid fiber-cable network to a full fiber-to-the-home network using KEYMILE's multiservice access platform, MileGate.

Glattwerk is replacing an HFC distribution network that has been in use for many years and will now provide customers with optical connectivity up to 1 Gbps in their homes and businesses. MileGate enables transmission of the existing cable TV signal as an RF overlay on the same fiber used for Internet access; it is also a space-saving solution because of its extremely high port density.

"Now we can choose whether to supply connections with or without the RF overlay, from the same platform," comments Markus Gautschi, CEO of Glattwerk. "Milegate also responds to all our demands with respect to IT reliability, switching functions, fail-safe operation and redundancy."
