TDS Expanding Fiber Network in 3 Wisconsin Communities

  • TDS Telecommunications
MADISON, WI — TDS Telecommunications, a provider of high-speed internet, phone, and TV services to customers in more than a hundred rural, suburban and metropolitan communities, announced newly formed partnerships with the villages of McFarland and Oregon where it plans to build new fiber optic networks.

With the partnerships in place in McFarland and Oregon, TDS will finalize engineering plans and immediately begin constructing the new fiber optic network in both communities. Work is expected to wrap up this fall. Once complete, TDS intends to launch up to 1 Gigabit internet service along with TDS TV and phone service for residents in both Oregon and McFarland. For businesses in these communities, TDS will provide up to 1 Gigabit internet, dedicated fiber connections, and TDS managedIP, a hosted VoIP communications solution.

Madison Expansion
In addition, TDS says construction is underway on a new fiber optic network — to offer Gig service to businesses — in five distinct parts of Madison, Wisconsin (East Towne Mall, Worthington Park, West Towne Mall, Rimrock Road and the Beltline, and South Stoughton Road).

“Fiber-based internet service simply makes everything faster,” said Julie Maiers, vice president of marketing and product development for TDS. “For businesses looking to grow and provide the best service possible, high-speed Internet service can make all the difference when it comes to being successful.”

“Advanced communication services, with fiber-to-the-home installations, create unlimited potential for the Internet of Things,” said Jim Butman, president and CEO of TDS. “In fact, gigabit per second service can transmit a two-hour movie in just 16 seconds. That’s one reason fiber-optic technology is in such high demand. Everyone is looking to the future of the internet and TDS is ready to bring it to more residents and businesses in Dane County.”

TDS launched similar next-generation services in nearby Sun Prairie last September. TDS also recently acquired Merrimac Communications, located just west of Madison, and plans to upgrade the network in order to offer residents and businesses state-of-the-art communications services and solutions.

“Our efforts in Sun Prairie, Merrimac, Madison, McFarland and Oregon, demonstrate our ongoing commitment to providing advanced technology and choice to more area residents and businesses,” added Butman. “We are excited to bring high speed internet to these communities and stand ready to become a strong community partner.”
