CALGARY, AB – TELUS announced plans to expand fiber optic Internet access across several regions in Canada, increasing wireless speeds and extending coverage, helping deliver better healthcare outcomes, offering market-leading Internet of Things solutions, and enhancing TELUS’ Future Friendly Home solutions.
Telus's 2015 fiber network investments include:
$212 Million in Calgary Area
TELUS will invest $212 million in new infrastructure and facilities in Calgary and surrounding areas to enhance wireless capacity and speed, connect homes and businesses directly to its fibre optic network, pilot TELUS Health programs, and continue construction of TELUS Sky.
This significant investment is part of TELUS’ commitment to invest $4.2 billion in new infrastructure and facilities across Alberta through 2018, including $1 billion this year alone. When combined with operational expenses, this will bring TELUS’ total investment in Alberta over the next four years to more than $11 billion. This significant investment will result in TELUS having invested more than $45 billion in Alberta since 2000 to further extend advanced telecommunications infrastructure and healthcare services, ensuring sustained innovation and fueling economic growth.
“Calgary is already one of the most connected communities in the world today, and our investment this year will take that to yet another level, supporting our high-tech economy and healthcare services while offering ever-faster Internet data speeds, whether wired, Wi-Fi, or wireless,” said Andrea Goertz, TELUS Chief Communications and Sustainability Officer. “This year we will connect more Calgary homes and business directly to our fibre optic network to dramatically increase their Internet speeds, further expand our Wi-Fi network providing complimentary access in busy buildings and facilities, and enhance wireless capacity.”
$10 Million in Chaudière Appalaches, Beauce
TELUS will connect thousands of homes and businesses in Saint-Lambert-de-Lauzon, Saint-Charles and Sainte-Marie directly to TELUS’ fiber optic network, while simultaneously adding wireless capacity and coverage throughout the region.
“We are connecting thousands of homes and businesses in Chaudiere-Appalaches and Beauce to the most advanced communications technology in the world, as well as local healthcare facilities and schools,” said Clément Audet, vice-president, Consumer Market, at TELUS. “Our significant investment will bring local businesses, healthcare providers, and educators powerful technology, enabling them to reimagine how they deliver critical services, including life-changing health solutions that will benefit all of us in these regions for years to come.”
$116 Million in the Greater Montréal Area
TELUS will invest in new infrastructure and facilities across the Greater Montréal area this year to enhance wireless capacity and data speeds, connect more businesses directly to the company’s fiber optic network, and deliver TELUS Health technology solutions.
This significant investment is part of TELUS’ commitment to invest $1.6 billion in Québec through 2018 to bring advanced telecommunications infrastructure to every corner of the province, enabling sustained innovation, providing access to world-class education programs, extending critical healthcare technology to more communities, and fueling economic growth. By the end of 2018, TELUS will have invested $23 billion in Québec since 2000.
$64 Million in the Greater Québec City Area
TELUS is bringing new communications infrastructure across the Greater Québec City area this year to connect thousands of homes in Saint-Raymond directly to TELUS’ fibre optic network, enhance wireless capacity and speed, and extend the reach of TELUS Health technology.
The fiber optic infrastructure being installed directly into homes and businesses in Saint-Raymond is the most advanced communications technology available in the world today, and will enable connected customers to immediately take advantage of dramatically faster Internet speeds and network reliability. In the long term, families and businesses will be able to benefit from even faster speeds and have more than enough data capacity to meet growing demand for generations to come. Local healthcare providers, educators and technology companies will be able to draw upon the technology to reimagine how they deliver services.
This significant investment is part of TELUS’ commitment to invest $1.6 billion in Québec through 2018 to bring advanced telecommunications infrastructure to every corner of the province, enabling sustained innovation, providing access to world-class education programmes, extending critical healthcare technology to more communities, and fueling economic growth. By the end of 2018, TELUS will have invested $23 billion in Québec since the year 2000.
