DENVER, CO — The city of El Segundo, Calif., has partnered with Magellan Advisors, a national provider of broadband planning and IT consulting services, to develop a broadband feasibility study for the city. Magellan’s staff of expert broadband planners and consultants will bring their extensive knowledge and experience to the project as they collaborate with city officials to assess the opportunity in bringing municipal broadband to its community to better serve the needs of business, residents, and future economic development.

The goal of the Broadband Feasibility Study is to create a community-based broadband strategy for El Segundo that will support technological and economic goals both now and in the future. According to Barbara Voss, the city’s economic development manager, “Access to high-speed broadband service will promote economic growth in the city and ensure that El Segundo can compete and thrive in today’s digital economy.” The plan will leverage the city’s current fiber-optic infrastructure and evaluate possible new investments in fiber to serve local broadband needs, in cooperation with broadband providers.

Magellan Advisors has planned and developed fiber optic networks in over 100 communities across the U.S., and will bring this real-world experience to develop a plan for the city of El Segundo. Magellan and the city will engage local business to determine their needs and likelihood of utilizing a network built by the city. The city’s information systems manager Larry Klingaman states, “The city of El Segundo is pleased to have chosen Magellan Advisors to lead the city in our mission of providing high-speed broadband throughout our business districts.”
