UTOPIA Fiber Build-outs Continue in West Valley City, Utah

MURRAY, UT — UTOPIA Fiber, community-owned fiber optic network in Utah, has recently completed one of the largest neighborhoods on their network in West Valley City, providing 2,000 more homes access to their service. With their ongoing building efforts, UTOPIA Fiber has expanded to over 3,500 homes in West Valley City in 2017.

“We want to continue to provide high speed internet service to residents and businesses within our city that haven’t before had access,” says West Valley City Manager Wayne Pyle. “UTOPIA Fiber brings our community to the forefront of broadband availability.”

Fiber Connections to Residents and Businesses
With these new neighborhoods in West Valley City becoming available, more than 8,400 homes have access to the fastest internet speeds in the country. Not only does UTOPIA offer residential services, but it provides business connections as well. There are 330 businesses currently connected to the network in West Valley City alone. Because UTOPIA Fiber is an open access network, consumers have numerous service providers in direct competition with one another, ensuring a higher quality product at a lower price point.

Free Wi-Fi in City Parks and Buildings
West Valley City also offers free Wi-Fi in its city parks and buildings through UTOPIA Fiber and its Wi-Fi initiative, West Valley Connect. When this project is completed, West Valley City will boast the largest number of public parks and spaces with free Wi-Fi access in the state. The West Valley City offices and the Police Department also rely on the UTOPIA Fiber network to run their day-to-day tasks and keep the city running smoothly.

West Valley City joined UTOPIA Fiber because they saw the need for a municipal fiber network for their residents and how this technology could benefit their community. They understood the importance of broadband and how the demand would grow exponentially in the years to come. “West Valley City has always been one of our top supporters and we are continuously working side-by-side with West Valley City leaders to further our expansion efforts,” UTOPIA Fiber Executive Director Roger Timmerman said. “Without West Valley City’s tremendous support, this project would not have been possible.”
