ERIE, PA - Velocity.Net Communications (VNCI) and Velocity Network (VNET), regional fiber optic and Internet service providers, will start construction of an extension of their high-speed fiber optic Internet network to the Fairview Business Park. This extension will be deployed in two phases, starting with the western segment of the park. Construction is scheduled to start in July 2014 with service activated later this year.

Fiber Optic Speeds to Boost Manufacturing Region
The Fairview Business Park is home to some of the Erie region's premier manufacturing companies. However, access to scalable and reliable Internet access has been a challenge for the Park since its development in the 1990s. The companies currently located in the Park have been limited to Internet speeds of 3 Mbps or less, which has made it difficult for the developer of the park, DevelopErie, to attract new companies to Fairview.

According to Bob Grice, DevelopErie's Director of Development, “This area has struggled with the lack of reliable access to broadband for many years. The investment that Velocity is making in the region will allow us to attract more businesses to the park and will be a huge win for the entire region.”

"Velocity.Net Communications and Velocity Network are excited to provide fiber optic services to the Fairview Business Park. As the Erie region's only locally owned Internet service and fiber optic provider, we are committed to expanding our fiber optic network and investing in technologies that will empower local businesses to grow," said VNCI and VNET President and CEO Joel Deuterman.

Clearfield Collaboration
VNCI and VNET are collaborating with Clearfield, the leader in fiber optic deployment products, to deliver the fiber to each company via FieldShield and FTTx solutions. Clearfield's innovative design and ease of installation created the environment that made it possible to offer the fiber optic services to the business park.

“Fiber-enabled broadband is proven to be an economic boom to the entire community,” says Cheri Beranek, president and CEO of Clearfield. "Our scalable technologies are designed to ensure service providers such as Velocity, who share this vision, can rapidly deploy the technologies that will deliver superior speeds with the ultimate in reliability.”

VNCI , VNET and Clearfield will be in the Fairview Business Park’s western complex to kick off the project on Friday, May 2 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Clearfield’s application trailer will be present to conduct hands-on demonstrations of the fiber optic products being used in this deployment.
