OAKLAND, CAVianet, a triple-play services provider in Ontario, will deploy a fiber-to-the-home network using GPON technology from Zhone Technologies. Zhone's MXK platform and and zNID optical network terminals will support Vianet's customers across the service footprint.

Vianet, headquartered in Sudbury, Ontario, made the strategic decision to offer its residential and business customers an advanced broadband network. Its expanded bandwidth capacity will enable the company to deliver high-quality advanced services, including HDTV and high-speed Internet, that will improve its competitive position and accelerate its growth strategy.

Vianet turned to Zhone's MXK and zNID offering in large part because of the Zhone solution's smooth and affordable upgrade path. "Zhone's GPON solutions represented the perfect blend of functionality, ease of use and scalability for our network growth," says Will Gasteiger, president of Vianet. "We knew the transition from DSL to FTTH would be a challenge, and we were looking for a partner that had the right technology to get us where we need to be. With Zhone as our support, it was a smooth deployment process for us and our customers."
