Vodafone Expands Fiber Services in Italy

MILAN - Vodafone is extending its optical fiber network to 27 Italian cities, offering download speeds of 30 Mbps  and upload speeds of 3 Mbps. The first cities in which Vodafone's ultra-fast broadband will become available are: Ancona, Bari, Bergamo, Bologna, Brescia, Brindisi, Catania, Catanzaro, Como, Florence, Forli, Genoa, Monza, Naples, Padua, Palermo, Pescara, Pisa, Reggio Emilia, Rome, Taranto, Turin, Treviso, Varese, Venezia, Verona and Vicenza.

The initiative is part of Vodafone's fiber strategy, which aims to provide its customers with a comprehensive portfolio of services and technologies in ultra-fast broadband connections all over Italy. Vodafone remains committed to the development of fiber to the home, with the goal of providing all Italian cities with the same lighting-fast speeds now available in newer areas of Milan. Thanks to a recent agreement with Metroweb, more than 45,000 housing units in Milan now have fiber access. The network is expected to cover the entire city by 2016.

With more than 2.5 million customers, Vodafone is now the second-largest alternative fixed network in Italy. Among its many market innovations are the Vodafone Station, which uses a Wi-Fi router to combine fixed telephony services and mobile navigation, and Single Network, which provides businesses with a single integrated service for fixed and mobile communications in the cloud. On a commercial level, Vodafone offers include ADSL and mobile navigation via the Internet, latest generation Wi-Fi for mobile phones, and landlines in Italy and abroad - as well as voice only or ADSL only services.
