Windstream Sells Distribution Subsidiary to Walker Associates

LITTLE ROCK, AR – Windstream Corporation, a telephone company with about 3 million access lines, will sell the assets of its product distribution subsidiary, Windstream Supply LLC, to Walker and Associates Inc., a distributor and integrator of telecom network products  based in Welcome, N.C. Windstream is following in the footsteps of EMBARQ, which sold its distribution subsidiary, EMBARQ Logistics, to KGP Telecommunications at the time of its merger with CenturyTel earlier this year.

“This transaction provides a better strategic path for our supply business and allows Windstream to focus on our core communications business,” says Brent Whittington, chief operating officer for Windstream.

The transaction, which is expected to close later this month, primarily includes product inventory and customer accounts. Windstream Supply was expected to generate roughly $75 million in sales from external customers for 2009.
