OAKLAND, CA — Zhone Technologies, a global leader in the fiber access market, announced a new FiberLAN deployment with Beanfield Metroconnect. Beanfield, a Toronto-based telecom company and official supplier of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games, will be providing state-of-the-art network infrastructure for game venues and the CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Athlete's Village.
The games are the world's third largest international multi-sport gaming event; only the Olympic Summer Games and the Asian Games surpass them in size. Beanfield knew they needed the latest fiber-based technologies available for in-building deployments in order to ensure networks would be able to handle the influx of broadband traffic that would accompany the Games as attendees flood to Toronto. Zhone was able to efficiently and affordably provide its optical LAN solution, FiberLAN, at the request of Beanfield, designing and building a unique 8-port ONT that allowed remote powering over a single copper pair.
Zhone zNIDs Connect Toronto Residents to Fiber-based Services
The deployment consisted of Zhone zNIDs to connect residents in Toronto to fiber-based data, voice and video services in the Toronto metropolitan area. Toronto is Canada's largest city, home to more than 2.8 million people, and this deployment will be beneficial to residents by increasing availability and reliability of broadband services.
"In order to upgrade the fiber infrastructure for our residents and to prepare for the games, Beanfield researched fiber solutions on the market and chose Zhone's FiberLAN because it is one of the most advanced and cost-effective solutions on the market," said Dan Armstrong, chief executive officer and chief technology officer at Beanfield. "The reliability and quality FiberLAN will provide will definitely assist in making the games a successful event for the city of Toronto."
Assuring the Connectivity Needs of Visitor Influx
"Zhone worked with Beanfield to identify a unique solution that would address the influx of visitors expected for the games, as well as supporting the ongoing needs of residents, and found FiberLAN to be a perfect option," said James Norrod, chief executive officer at Zhone Technologies. "Zhone's platform delivers the flexibility required to meet Beanfield's unique needs and provide the advanced services users demand."
Zhone's Fiber-based LAN is a high-performance, high density Optical LAN solution delivering high-peed data, voice and video to multi-level, multi-unit commercial and industrial complexes, including hotel rooms, bandwidth demanding desktops and work-stations. It can be deployed in offices, rooms, factories or other harsh industrial environments, delivering comprehensive connectivity for any Local Area Networking requirement.
