A Message from the Gateway to Southern California

Ontario’s gigabit fiber infrastructure helps grow farming community into economic heart of the region

Ontario, California, historically a rural southern California community, has emerged from a small farming town to a global e-commerce and logistics center, now often referred to as the “Gateway to Southern California.”

Ontario’s success in positioning itself as the economic heart of the region is largely anchored in its advanced fiber infrastructure.

Through bold vision, a unique financing strategy, and disciplined planning, the city of Ontario’s growing fiber network currently provides gigabit internet to residents and businesses, fueling sustainable economic growth.

Located 40 miles east of the Port of Los Angeles, Ontario began to emerge as a transportation and logistics hub at the start of the 21st century, in part due to its position along three rail lines and two interstates.

To fuel further growth, the city recognized the need to invest in its roads, gain control of its airport, and construct a citywide high-capacity gigabit fiber network.

To guide its connectivity future, in 2013, the city commissioned the development of a Technology Fiber Master Plan. By capitalizing on city strengths and focusing on existing internal core competencies, the city’s fiber network is attracting new industry and residents and improving the social wellbeing of its citizens.
