The CLIC-AAPB Super Session: Starting and Sustaining Successful Community Broadband Initiatives

Local governments are increasingly making key broadband infrastructure decisions, as owners, operators, or partners. The Coalition for Local Internet Choice (CLIC) and the American Association for Public Broadband (AAPB) support public entities in making informed broadband decisions to enable economic development and a better quality-of-life for their communities for decades to come. This three-hour workshop hosted by CLIC and AAPB will focus on: (1) the critical role of broadband partnerships in America’s broadband future and the key features of successful partnerships; (2) How to fight back against organized misinformation campaigns designed to derail public broadband initiatives and partnerships; and (3) What communities can do to identify and resist state measures that may explicitly or effectively exclude them from eligibility for federal, state, and other funding resources.

Digital Equity: Capitalizing on Historic Federal Broadband Funding

We are at a historic moment in trying to eliminate the digital divide. While much of the focus of these efforts has been focused on rural and other areas without service, many low-income multifamily communities are rightly eligible for funding under the BEAD program and adoption subsidies like the ACP. Yet accessing these funds is not without challenges. In this panel discussion, we’ll hear from experts at the FCC, NTIA and others on ways to advocate for and access these critical funds, hear about cost-effective strategies for deployment and achieve our shared goals of attaining digital equity for those in need.

How does a company’s sustainability and operational goals intersect with asset management and connectivity strategies? This session aims to outline how a property’s digital backbone plays a vital role in realizing environmental goals. Speakers will share case studies and insights on how apartment managers can incorporate eco-friendly capital investments into broadband strategies to save on costs, mitigate risk, and support data management of building energy performance. As sustainability and climate reporting standards take effect in the market, how property owners and operators integrate and communicate their environmental operations strategies becomes increasingly more important.
